Delicious Vegan Options to Try in Wichita, KS
We were blown away by all the vegan options to try in Wichita, KS. This truly is a vegan or plant-based foodie destination to experience in the Midwest.
You know it’s a good destination when you want to repeat options. We typically don’t try to repeat dining options because we want to try everything possible., especially in a new location that isn’t close to our home. Still, we went for it when other options weren’t available when we wanted to eat.

Vegan Breakfast Options in Wichita, KS
We were excited to find several vegan-friendly breakfast options in Wichita. As any vegan knows, finding plant-based breakfast options can be challenging in some areas, but this was not the case in Wichita! You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the breakfast vegan options in Wichita, KS.
The Donut Whole
1720 E. Douglas Ave. Wichita, KS Website | Facebook
It had been a long time since we had had a vegan donut. There were enough vegan donut options at Whole Donuts that we could easily pick out enough for a 6-pack of vegan donuts.
Did we need six donuts for two people? Absolutely not. Did we eat them over our four days in Wichita? Absolutely. We enjoyed every one of them!
Our donut choices were Violet B, Berry Glaze, Sandwich Cookie, Chubby Cardinal, Thrice Mint, and Feather Boa. YUM
This place is quirky in all the right ways. We suggest eating at least one of your donuts at The Donut Whole to take in all the quirk. Play Ms Pacman or a pinball machine or sit and eat donuts with friends.
All the donuts are made in-house with locally sourced ingredients. The vegan donuts were clearly marked, and they also have gluten-free options.
Donut Whole was the perfect spot to visit with Vanessa White, fellow travel writer and author of 100 Things To Do In Wichita Before You Die.
Songbird Juice Co
If you’re looking for a healthful and mindful meal, then Songbird Juice Co. must be on your list when visiting Wichita.
Careful thought and consideration go into choosing every menu item in the ingredients and process required to make the food. Not only is it about the taste, but also the amount of waste it will produce. They have fine-tuned their ingredients to be able to compost nearly all their garbage.
This is an almost no-waste establishment, making only one-half of a trash can of waste per week!
Grab a house-brewed kombucha, a cold-pressed juice, a smoothie, a turmeric latte, or any of the dishes on the menu.
After sharing a bowl of cozy immortal stew and a turmeric latte, we felt nourished and ready to take on the day exploring Wichita. We also tried the kombucha and chlorophyll water. Everything was wonderful.
They also sell foods and ingredients in a cooler that are sourced locally.

Sunflour Cafe & Collective
Sunflour Cafe & Collective is a unique spot for breakfast. It’s a combination of Cafe & Collective where you can shop for locally made products.
If there’s vegan biscuits and gravy on the menu, that’s what Dusty will order. He enjoyed the Southern Gravy Melt, which consisted of Impossible sausage, tofu scramble, in-house gravy, and vegan cheddar cheese & mozzarella cheese.
They also offer the only vegan and gluten-free soft-serve ice cream in Wichita. Pour yourself a bowl of Oatley Soft Swerve Creamery and pick your toppings.
Vegan Food Trucks in Wichita, KS
We loved the all-vegan food trucks in Wichita. We are not alone in that sentiment! We caught the food trucks at three spots that were busy with good crowds wanting delicious vegan options in Wichita. We also loved how they each promoted the other food truck to us. All ships rise with high tides.
No Ragrets Vegan Food Truck
Give their Facebook page a follow to track them down while visiting Wichita.
The Mac-Daddy Cheeze Burger will not disappoint!! Their house-made plant-based patty, lettuce, pickles, onion, mac sauce, and cheese will blow your mind. If you miss a Big Mac burger, this Mac Daddy Cheeze Burger will make your day!
We also enjoyed the Po-Boy Sandwich. The deep-fried oyster mushrooms made for the perfect shrimp-like sandwich. You’ll want to savor every last drop of the remoulade sauce.
Wheat Street Dogs
If you visit Wichita, and we hope you do, you must track down the Wheat Street Dogs Food Cart. They’re out and about year-round on the weekends in Wichita. Check their website or Facebook page for their schedule.
Not only are the toppings insane (in all the best ways), but they handcraft their meat-free hot dogs and sausages!
As luck would have it, we were able to eat here twice. We wanted to take in as many vegan options in Wichita, KS, as possible, but some other options on our list weren’t available when lunch worked into our schedule. This was OK with us because these vegan dogs were out of this world!
You’ll need a healthy appetite and a fork for these vegan hot dogs. We tried the Banh Mi, The Mutt, and the Chili Dog. All were delicious, and we hope to try the rest of the menu someday! If these three dogs are any indication, you can’t go wrong choosing anything off the menu.
Dine-In Vegan Restaurants in Wichita
There are lots of sit-down restaurants with vegan options in Wichita. If you’re dining with non-vegans, you can find plenty of restaurants that cater to everyone at your table.
Poppies Cafe
The owner of another popular vegan bakery, NiceBites Bakery in Wichit, owns Poppie’s Cafe. Don’t let the location fool you. This Cafe is located on the East side of Wichita in the Ruffin Building, and it’s completely worth going to.
We were thrilled to find this practically right next door to the Marriott, our hotel, the first night we arrived in Wichita.
The portions are huge. Bring your appetite! We ordered the Philly Sandwich and BBQ Sandwich from the Plant-Powered Menu. Both were excellent, but that Philly Sandwich was legit! It reminded us why, before going vegan, it was one of our favorite sandwiches. This one was guilt-free and delicious.
This vegetarian cafe also serves up vegan baked goods.
Piatto’s
We were impressed with everything about Piatto’s. The service was excellent, we loved the ambiance, and the food was perfect. We love Neopolitan pizza and Piatto’s delivered!
They have a vegan section on the menu and use Follow Your Heart Cheese. It was perfect on our Vegan Holy Kale Pizza. Cubed gold potatoes, crimini, white button, shitake mushrooms, kale, shaved garlic, and paprika with the vegan chees.
Everything was so good, and only took 90 seconds to cook in the wood-fired oven from Italy! We shared the Insalata made vegan by omitting the parmesan.
We also love the Neopolitan Pizza that we had in Bismarck.
Yokohama Ramen Joint
This was our first experience eating real ramen. We totally enjoyed our bowl of vegan ramen. There are only a few tables inside the restaurant, and the takeout scene was super busy- a good sign that you’re at a popular dining spot.
Yokohama Rame Joint is located within the historic Delano District in Wichita. Spend a little extra time here for local shopping like Bungalow 26 and Hatman Jack’s, right next door.
The vegan ramen was easy to spot on the menu, which had a vegetarian/vegan-friendly tab right on the menu. We shared a bowl of vegetable ramen. It was cozy, delicious, and filling.
We learned that in Japan, it is customary for each town and household to have its own style and recipe for ramen. Yokohama has been featured in the top 50 Ramen spots in both USA Today and Food Network
Meddy’s
Head to Meddy’s if you’re looking for authentic Mediterranean food options. We ate here twice because other vegan spots were not open when hungry.
Our food was consistently good each time, and the service was excellent, which sticks out these days.
We ate the Fancy Falafels, falafel shawarma and fattoush salad. The portions were fantastic, a great value, and delicious.
They also offer beer, cocktails, or wine, and it has a nice ambiance. There are 5 locations throughout Wichita and 2 in Kansas City, MO.
The Kitchen
There are several vegan options on the menu at The Kitchen. This popular dining spot is located in the Douglas Design District of Wichita.
Vegan items are clearly marked on the menu. We shared the vegan flatbread and enjoyed our choice. This flatbread had zucchini, mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted tomato sauce, and a balsamic glaze. They also have a nice drinks menu.
We thought it was cool that they offer various cooking classes! What a fun date night idea. Chef Natasha is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute in NYC and creates the curriculum for Williams-Sonoma stores. Chef Natasha also won Food Network’s Guy’s Grocery Games!
