Dusty’s birthday is in February. Planning something for February in Minnesota can often be a difficult task due to the weather. This year provided an extra layer of difficulty since things were still fairly locked down due to COVID-19 restrictions. We lucked out with only light flurries making for easy travel.

We run an e-commerce business and Dusty also works a full-time job. This past year has been our busiest year yet. Dusty said he wanted nothing but to RELAX for his birthday. Who am I to argue with picking the newest luxury hotel in Minneapolis for a staycation? Relax, we did!

We were very happy with our choice. The look and feel of our room were so light and airy and absolutely lovely. Not only was the room spotless with impeccable details, but the room felt clean. The beds were soft and luxurious and now Kelly is on the hunt for Frette bedding. Thanks?! HA!

527 S. Marquette Ave- Minneapolis

Located at 527 S. Marquette Ave in downtown Minneapolis, Rand Tower is part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio of independent hotels and managed by Oxford Hotels & Resorts. Rand Tower opened in December of 2020.

iParkIt ramp is connected to Rand Tower. Reviews are not favorable online but we had a great experience parking for two nights in the ramp with zero issues. During our stay (February 2021) parking costs $27 per night. Since it’s connected to Rand Tower, the ramp provided easy access and we didn’t have to go outside to get to Rand Tower. This was an appreciated detail for a snowy, February stay.

Rufus Rand and Rand Tower

Rufus Rand was a prominent business leader during the 1920s-1930s and heir to his father’s company, Minneapolis Gas and Light Company. Rand had a passion for aviation and served as a military pilot in both World Wars I and II.

Rand Tower was built in 1929 and was placed on the National Register in 1994. Rand Tower was and still is a reflection of Rand’s love of aviation. The hotel has a very moody Art Deco and aviation theme with beautiful details throughout.

The finer details….and there are many!

We recommend a little walkabout during both daylight and evening hours, as you’ll notice different details in a different light.

The lobby area is so pretty. Even though the hotel is in a busy part of Minneapolis, it was peaceful and elegant inside. There are also a stunning 1st-floor bar and a 5th-floor restaurant with a retractable roof (not yet open). We weren’t feeling like a cocktail during our stay, though the bar was absolutely beautiful. For food, we didn’t notice any plant-based options so we walked to the skyway for food.

Room Details at Rand Tower Hotel

The bathroom had a solid barn door and was lit by a lighted mirror that was triggered by motion. The bathroom toiletries Malin + Goetz were a special treat.

We enjoyed the room amenities such as the mini-fridge, the Lavazza Espresso Machine spoiled us and we really appreciated the clean remote control and USB ports. We travel a lot (mostly Marriotts) and continue to be surprised when our rooms don’t have USB ports.

Our room had a luggage stand with attached closet. Both were lit which was helpful. The big windows were beautiful and so pretty to look out over the city. The curtains were massive and black-out which was a nice feature!

The skyway connects Rand Tower to Nicollet Mall, Gaviidea Commons, and Target Center. Providing access to so many wonderful things to do and see without leaving the comfort of the climate-controlled skyway! Of course, you can always walk outside too. We’ll save that for our next stay in the summertime. Truly, we were very happy with our Rand Tower Hotel Minneapolis Staycation.
