Six Ways To Enjoy Fenway Park

Did we plan a quick trip to Boston to attend a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park? Yes, we sure did! We scored an amazing flight deal to Boston from Minneapolis ($86 Round Trip), and our good luck did not stop there! As luck would have it, the Red Sox played at home during our visit. As this was our first trip to Fenway, we devoted one day to getting to know Fenway Park. Heading to Fenway? Read more for six ways to enjoy Fenway Park!

Six Ways To Enjoy Fenway Park

6 Tips For Visiting Fenway Stadium

1. Book Red Sox Game Tickets ASAP

The minute you know you’re going to Boston, check to see if there’s a home Red Sox game. Depending on how serious of a baseball fan you are, you may even want to book your trip around a Red Sox home game.

We intentionally stayed at the Copley Westin Westin, within walking distance of Fenway Park. Click below for more hotel options near Fenway.

I studied the seating map intently. I’m a little cheap, so I did not want to pay for sitting in the Green Monster (or Green Monstah).

Be prepared to pay up for seats in the Green Monster; ticket prices started at $140 during our visit.

We ended up with seats in Box B2, row H in the right field, for $28 per ticket. We were about 15 yards from the Oakland Bullpen, with a beautiful view of the Par and game.

2. Join Red Sox Nation

If you’re not already a member, we suggest joining the fan club for Red Sox Nation.  Membership costs $25 per year. With membership, you can watch batting practice during home games from the Green Monster! This was worth $25.

We also purchased a Red Sox Nation membership for Kelly because they quit allowing a +1 to batting practice. The security guard would have let her through, but we bought the membership anyway. Side note, you get a Red Sox sticker and membership card for joining. In my opinion, even for one-time use, joining was worth it.

PRO TIP for attending battting practice. To attend batting practice, enter through Gate C. Gate C is on the backside of the Park near House of Blues. The gates are not in alphabetical order.

3. Book a Fenway Park Tour

In addition to the game, I highly recommend a tour of Fenway Park. It’s cool to be in the belly of the Park and have it to yourself. It’s over 2 hours. The tour guide is full of history regarding baseball at Fenway Park.

You’ll need to show up 15 minutes before your tour. The tour meets in the gift shop across the street from where you purchase your tickets.

Another great Boston Tour: Sam Adams Brewery

Did you Know Fenway Park has a Rooftop Garden?

On our tour, we were surprised to learn that Fenway Park has a green space with their rooftop garden. Fenway Farms can be accessed from the third base side of Fenway Park is a 2,400 sq. ft garden where they hey grow 6,000 pounds of organic vegetables.

The vegetables and herbs are used for the exclusive Dell EMC Club at Fenway Park as well as concessions through Fenway.

4. Attend Fenway Park Batting Practice

Arrive to the game early for a chance to take in batting practice. We watched from inside Fenway and from the Bleacher Bar below Fenway Park.

5. Pre-Game at Lansdowne Street

The area is lively with music, food vendors yelling to attract customers, and the excited crowds gathering for the game.

There is palatable excitement on game day. It’s a juxtaposition of being there earlier in the day and a few hours before game time. Walls become vendor stands, and a crowd suddenly appears.

6. Drink a Beer at the Bleacher Bar Beneath Fenway Park

This is a one-of-a-kind experience. The Bleacher Bar is literally beneath the center field of Fenway Park. Arrive early on game day for a good seat near the metal screen.

Look to the left to spot the famous Ted Williams red seat. Look straight on the field of Fenway through the garage door protected by a cage. Of course, look to the right and see the “Monstah!” This place is packed during games.

6 Tips For Visiting Fenway Stadium

Since we devoted most of our day to what we call the Fenway Experience, we had plenty of time to sit there during the non-peak time and had a front-row seat. Time it right, and you’ll be treated to warm-ups or other happenings on the field!

Visit the Fenway Garden Society

As mentioned, we devoted this entire day to Fenway. We arrived early, and on our walk there, just outside of Fenway, is the Fenway Victory Gardens. This is a great place to kill before a Red Sox game.

It’s a historical garden dating back to WW2 that you’ll pass before getting to Fenway, so you might as well stop in!

After an Evening Game at Fenway

We stayed in Copley Square at the Westin. It was easily walkable and clocked in just over a mile. There were hundreds of people walking, and we felt very safe doing so. An Uber, Lyft, hotel shuttle, or cab is always an option!

One thing to note if you attend an evening game. The game ended just before 10 p.m., and we assumed there’d be a place to eat on our walk home. Most restaurants close at 10 p.m. Luckily, we found an awesome takeout spot near Berklee College of Music called Teriyaki House.

So if you don’t get your ballpark food at the game, get a game plan for dinner afterward.

Things to Know Before Your Visit to Fenway Park

Backpacks are not allowed. Purses are allowed.

Fenway Park is very walkable, so give yourself time to take it all in!

  1. Craft Beer Lovers Should Take a Sam Adams Brewery Tour

    April 17, 2023 at 10:53 am

[…] We love to visit breweries when we travel so we knew a trip to Boston would have to include a tour of Sam Adams Boston Brewery. We wanted to take in as much of the city as we could on this 3-day trip but two things were certain. A Sam Adams Boston Brewery Trip and a Boston Red Sox game. […]

$28 for those seats seems like a bargain! Looks like you made the most of your Fenway experienceโ€”definitely adding to my list for the next time I’m in Boston! (The last time I visited it was a bit of a short notice trip and they were playing the Yankees so there was no way we could get reasonably priced tickets…)
